Lagos Govt Honours 375 LG, LCDA Officers With Long Service Merit Awards

The Lagos State Government has honoured 375 officers drawn from the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) for their outstanding service spanning three decades. The recognition came at the 2025 Long Service Merit Award Ceremony organised by the Office of Local Government Establishments and Training (OLGE&T) on Thursday at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, commended the officers for their “keen dedication, unwavering commitment, undiluted loyalty, diligence, selflessness and resilience.” Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Wale Musa, Agoro described the revival of the Long Service Merit Award as a morale booster for grassroots public servants and urged the honourees not to relent even in retirement.

He noted that of the 375 recipients, 202 were female and 173 were male, stressing that their contributions to grassroots development had significantly advanced the overall progress of Lagos State. Agoro further encouraged civil servants across the state to remain diligent, assuring them that their efforts would also be recognised in due course.

Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Kamal Ayinde Bayewu, congratulated the awardees and described grassroots officers as the “engine room of governance in Lagos.” He emphasised that the Commission would continue to implement reforms and initiatives to strengthen professionalism, efficiency, and staff welfare.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of OLGE&T, Mrs. Bibilomo Olushekun, explained that the award was revived to ensure that officers who dedicated their best years to the service of Lagos State were duly recognised. She said the programme is designed not only as a reward system but also as a morale booster that reflects the government’s appreciation for its workforce.

The event climaxed with the presentation of plaques and gifts to the 375 officers amid cheers from colleagues, family members, and well-wishers.
