NANS Urges FG to Safeguard Dangote Refinery Amid Alleged Sabotage Attempts

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps to protect the Dangote Refinery from alleged sabotage attempts by powerful interests said to be unsettled by its growing dominance in Nigeria’s fuel supply chain.

In a statement issued on Sunday, NANS expressed concern that the multi-billion-dollar refinery, which has been hailed as a game-changer for Nigeria’s energy security, is facing mounting threats from individuals and groups seeking to undermine its operations.

According to the students’ body, such sabotage attempts—whether through policy manipulation, supply disruptions, or other forms of economic subversion—pose a serious risk to national development and the quest to end Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products.

NANS stressed that the Dangote Refinery remains one of the most critical private-sector investments in Nigeria’s history and must be shielded from both local and international interests that stand to lose from its success.

The association urged the Federal Government to “stand firm against vested interests” and ensure that the refinery operates at full capacity for the benefit of Nigerians.

It further warned that failure to secure the facility could prolong fuel scarcity, keep pump prices unstable, and continue to drain Nigeria’s foreign reserves through costly fuel imports.
