Lagos to Host West Africa’s Largest Food Security & Logistics Hub in Epe

The Lagos State Government has announced the construction of a Central Food Security and Logistics Hub in Ketu-Ereyun, Epe, a landmark project that is expected to become the largest food hub in West Africa.

According to the state government, the initiative is designed to transform the food value chain by creating a modern system for storage, processing, and distribution of agricultural produce across Lagos and beyond.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the hub represents a bold step in tackling food insecurity, post-harvest losses, and unemployment, while boosting Lagos’s role as the economic heartbeat of Nigeria.

Benefits of the Hub
• Food Security: Improved capacity to preserve and distribute food, reducing waste caused by poor storage.
• Job Creation: Thousands of direct and indirect jobs will be created across farming, logistics, retail, and processing.
• Economic Growth: The hub will enhance trade within Lagos and strengthen its supply chain links with other states in Nigeria.
• Regional Impact: As the largest in West Africa, it will position Lagos as a central player in food logistics for the subregion.

Sanwo-Olu stressed that the project is not just about infrastructure but about building a sustainable food system that ensures affordability, accessibility, and resilience against future shocks.

“More food, less waste, more jobs. This is about securing the future of Lagos and ensuring that our people can live healthier, more productive lives,” the governor said.

With Lagos’s population projected to hit 30 million by 2035, the hub is seen as a timely intervention to meet the rising demand for food and to support farmers by connecting them to wider markets.

The project, once completed, will stand as a symbol of Lagos’s commitment to innovation, resilience, and prosperity in food management.
