Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has donated a state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre to his alma mater, Odu Abore Memorial Primary School, Mushin, in commemoration of his 61st birthday.
Speaking at the handover on Friday, Dr. Hamzat said the gesture was a fulfilment of a promise made during the school’s 80th anniversary, adding that his decision was inspired by the role ICT has played in shaping his life and career.
“Every child today must be computer-literate. ICT is the common denominator for Africans to compete globally. If our children are good in ICT, they will be able to excel anywhere in the world,” the Deputy Governor said.
He emphasised that while the government is doing a lot to integrate ICT into education, well-to-do individuals must also contribute to community development.
In goodwill messages, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, a member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and Hon. Moses Fayinka, representing Mushin Federal Constituency II, commended the Deputy Governor for what they described as a strategic investment in pupils’ access to modern technology.
The Education Secretary of Mushin Local Government Education Authority, Princess Olufemi Akinlude, hailed the facility as a milestone in Lagos’ education transformation, stressing that it would serve as “a gateway to opportunities, a hub for creativity, and a launchpad for innovation.”
She added that the centre would not only equip pupils with practical ICT skills but also enhance teaching and learning outcomes, while serving as a training hub for the wider community.
The event was attended by community leaders, pupils, teachers, and government officials, who pledged to preserve and maximise the use of the ICT hub.
