FG Reassures Nigerians on Steady Fuel Supply, Settles Rift with Dangote Refinery

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to guaranteeing uninterrupted supply of refined petroleum products nationwide, even as it announced the resolution of its recent dispute with Dangote Refinery.

The assurance followed a meeting of the Steering Committee on the Domestic Crude Oil and Refined Products Sales in Local Currency Initiative, chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.

At the meeting, members addressed growing concerns in the downstream sector, particularly the reported suspension of the Naira-for-crude arrangement with Dangote Refinery. Officials confirmed that the matter has now been resolved amicably, with the framework remaining firmly in place.

Also on the agenda were issues raised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) regarding the refinery’s operations.

Those in attendance included the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and head of the Technical Committee, Zacch Adedeji; representatives of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA); the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd.; the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN); Afreximbank; and Dangote Refinery.

The committee assured Nigerians that fuel supply will not face disruptions. It also pledged to address labour-related disputes between PENGASSAN and Dangote Refinery in good faith, while maintaining transparency in crude allocation and payment processes.

Reiterating government’s resolve, the committee emphasized that safeguarding energy security, protecting consumers, and stabilizing the domestic petroleum market remain top priorities.
