BREAKING: FG Engages U.S. Government Over Lawmakers’ Allegations of Christian Persecution in Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced diplomatic engagement with the United States Government following fresh allegations by American lawmakers accusing Nigeria of complicity in what they termed “state-backed persecution and genocide against Christians.”

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed the allegations as unfounded and misleading, stressing that Nigeria remains committed to protecting the rights and freedoms of all religious groups without discrimination.

According to the ministry, discussions are already underway through diplomatic channels to clarify Nigeria’s position and counter what it described as a misrepresentation of facts about the country’s security challenges.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding religious harmony and urged international partners to base their assessments on verified information rather than politically motivated claims.

It added that President Bola Tinubu’s administration continues to pursue policies aimed at promoting peace, unity, and mutual respect among Nigeria’s diverse religious communities.
