Business magnate and former senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending his long association with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Announcing his defection on Tuesday in Abuja, the former Bayelsa East senator said his decision was driven by conviction and admiration for President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda, which he described as “bold, necessary, and transformative.”
“I am not joining the APC for politics, but for progress,” Murray-Bruce said. “President Tinubu has taken courageous steps to reform the economy, promote industrialization, and attract foreign investment. I believe it is time to support the government’s efforts for national development.”
The media entrepreneur and founder of Silverbird Group praised Tinubu’s administration for pursuing market-driven policies, infrastructure expansion, and economic diversification, noting that such moves align with his long-standing advocacy for innovation and private sector growth.
Murray-Bruce, who served in the 8th National Assembly between 2015 and 2019, emphasized that his relationship with President Tinubu dates back to 1998, describing him as “a visionary leader who values competence and inclusion.”
Reacting to the announcement, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje welcomed the former senator into the ruling party, saying his experience in both politics and business would strengthen the party’s reform drive and communication strategy.
Political analysts have described the defection as a symbolic boost for the APC’s image in the South-South region, where the PDP has traditionally enjoyed dominance.
