BREAKING: FG Pays N2.3bn Salary and Promotion Arrears to Federal Universities

The Federal Government has released a total of N2.3 billion to clear outstanding salary and promotion arrears owed to staff of federal universities across the country.

The payment, which covers several months of accumulated backlogs, follows the government’s commitment to resolving long-standing financial obligations to academic and non-academic staff in the tertiary education sector.

According to reliable sources in the Federal Ministry of Education and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, the funds have already been disbursed to the respective institutions for onward payment to eligible staff.

The move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to stabilize the university system, improve staff welfare, and foster industrial harmony following years of agitations over unpaid entitlements.

Officials say the settlement also includes arrears from delayed promotions and salary adjustments previously withheld due to verification and audit processes.

With this development, the Federal Government has reaffirmed its resolve to address all outstanding obligations in the education sector and ensure uninterrupted academic activities in Nigerian universities.
