President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated that Nigeria remains firmly committed to upholding democracy and the constitutional guarantees of religious liberty for all citizens.
In a statement, the President emphasized that since the inception of his administration in 2023, the government has maintained open and active engagement with both Christian and Muslim leaders while addressing security challenges affecting Nigerians across faiths and regions.
“The characterisation of Nigeria as religiously intolerant does not reflect our national reality,” Tinubu said. “It fails to recognize the consistent and sincere efforts of government to safeguard freedom of religion and belief for all.”
He stressed that religious freedom and tolerance have long been integral to Nigeria’s collective identity and will continue to remain so.
“Nigeria opposes and does not encourage any form of religious persecution,” the President affirmed, adding that his administration is committed to working with the United States and the international community to strengthen cooperation and understanding on the protection of all faith communities.
