Nigeria’s Super Eagles have stormed into the final of the FIFA 2026 World Cup playoff series after a dominant 4–1 victory over Gabon on Thursday, November 13, at the Stade Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco.
The tense semi-final clash saw Nigeria overcome a late scare to secure a comprehensive win in extra time. Akor Adams broke the deadlock in the 78th minute after capitalising on a defensive blunder to put Nigeria ahead. However, Gabon’s Mario Lemina levelled the score in the 86th minute, forcing the game into extra time.
From there, it was all Nigeria. Substitute Chidera Ejuke restored the Super Eagles’ lead in the 97th minute with a composed finish, before Victor Osimhen struck twice in quick succession — in the 102nd and 110th minutes — to seal an emphatic victory for the three-time African champions.
With the win, Nigeria advance to Sunday’s playoff final against either Cameroon or DR Congo, where a place in March’s intercontinental playoff will be at stake.
The result marks one of Nigeria’s most convincing performances under coach Finidi George, as the team moves a step closer to securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
