Vice President Kashim Shettima, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arrived Bauchi to join Governor Bala Mohammed, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other top officials as thousands gathered for the janazah prayer of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi at the Tafawa Balewa Stadium Bauchi.

The state government of Bauchi State declared Friday, 28 November 2025, as a work-free day to honour the late prominent Islamic scholar, Dahiru Usman Bauchi — enabling public and private sector workers, students and residents to gather for his final rites.
The funeral prayer (janaza) was held at 3:00 p.m. at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, as stipulated by the late scholar’s will.
Thousands of mourners, including followers from Bauchi and neighbouring states, converged on the city. Security forces were deployed to manage the large crowds, maintain law and order, and oversee traffic flow.
Several national-level dignitaries were present, including former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, who arrived Bauchi ahead of the ceremony.
In his tribute, Bala Mohammed — Governor of Bauchi State — described the free-day declaration as a mark of deep respect for Sheikh Bauchi’s legacy of Qur’anic education, spiritual mentorship, promotion of peace, and moral uprightness.
The passing of Sheikh Bauchi, who died the previous day at age 98, has been widely mourned across the nation, with many remembering him as a guiding spiritual leader whose teachings influenced generations.
