British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua has been involved in a serious car accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, local authorities and multiple news outlets report.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and eyewitness accounts, the collision occurred around 11:00 a.m. local time near the Makun area close to Sagamu. The Lexus SUV carrying Joshua reportedly collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are still being investigated.
Police and emergency responders confirmed that two people died at the scene, while Joshua sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The 36-year-old former two-time heavyweight world champion was reportedly traveling as a passenger in the vehicle, which was part of a convoy. Footage circulating on social media shows the damaged SUV and Joshua conscious after the accident.
Joshua, who holds British nationality and Nigerian heritage through his parents, has strong ties to Sagamu in Ogun State. He was in Nigeria following his recent knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami less than two weeks ago.
The FRSC said investigations into the exact cause of the collision are ongoing. More details are expected as authorities release official statements and updates.
