The Federal Government has honoured 12 outstanding teachers across Nigeria with a total cash reward of ₦350 million, in a move aimed at recognising excellence and revitalising the teaching profession.
The teachers were selected from different parts of the country following a rigorous and merit-based assessment process that evaluated commitment, innovation, and impact on students and communities.
Speaking at the award ceremony, the Minister of Education said the recognition underscores the government’s resolve to restore dignity to the teaching profession and motivate educators to continue shaping the nation’s future through quality education. He noted that teachers remain the backbone of national development and deserve both moral and financial encouragement.
According to the ministry, each awardee received a substantial cash prize, while the overall best teacher emerged with a higher reward in recognition of exceptional performance and service delivery.

The government stressed that the initiative aligns with its broader education reform agenda, which prioritises teacher welfare, capacity building, and improved learning outcomes in schools nationwide.
In their remarks, education stakeholders at the event applauded the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that could inspire more dedication among teachers and attract young Nigerians into the profession.
One of the award recipients, while speaking on behalf of others, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, describing the honour as a strong motivation to do more in advancing education and mentoring the next generation.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the programme annually as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s education system and promote excellence in teaching.
