The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 53-year-old lecturer, Abdulfatai Aiyede, who reportedly died under mysterious circumstances while visiting a young woman at her residence in Minna, the Niger State capital.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, the incident was reported to the command on January 27, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m. Preliminary findings indicate that Aiyede, a native of Bida, travelled to Minna to visit a 25-year-old nursing student identified as Stella Joseph.

Police sources disclosed that during the visit, Stella allegedly prepared and served the lecturer a meal. Shortly after eating, Aiyede was said to have started convulsing before collapsing suddenly inside the apartment. Witnesses reportedly raised an alarm, prompting efforts to save him.

He was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Minna for urgent medical attention. However, despite the intervention of medical personnel, he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Abiodun stated that the young woman, Stella Joseph, has been arrested to aid investigations into the incident. He noted that her arrest was necessary to help the police establish the sequence of events leading to the lecturer’s sudden collapse and death.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited for autopsy and further medical examination to determine the exact cause of death, as investigators work to rule out foul play or possible underlying health complications.

The police spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that findings will be made known once inquiries are concluded. He also urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid speculation, stressing that the case will be handled with professionalism and transparency in line with the law.
