Lagos Assembly Applauds Hon. Ege, Housing Committee Leader After Landmark Public Hearing on Tenancy Bill

Yesterday, at a one‑day public hearing held at the Lagos State House of Assembly Complex on the proposed Lagos State Tenancy and Recovery of Premises Bill, 2025, the Assembly’s Majority Leader, Hon. Noheem Adams, praised the efforts of Hon. Ege Olusegun Adebisi, Chairman of the House Committee on Housing, describing the event as “one of the best public hearings in recent times.”

Highlighting the significance of the hearing, Adams remarked, “This one‑day public hearing on the Tenancy and Recovery of Premises Bill, 2025, was expertly organized and well‑attended—truly one of the best public hearings in recent time.” His commendation came as stakeholders—including tenants, landlords, and real estate professionals—contributed insights that could shape the final form of the bill.

Hon. Ege Olusegun Adebisi, for his part, reiterated the importance of inclusive legislative processes. He noted that the bill outlines a comprehensive framework for tenancy relations in Lagos, including rent payment structures, eviction procedures, and the rights and responsibilities of landlords, tenants, and agents.

The Tenancy and Recovery of Premises Bill, 2025 aims to overhaul existing regulations by clarifying roles, standardizing eviction notices, and streamlining recovery processes. Among its key provisions are limits on rent demands and enhanced legal protections for tenants facing arbitrary eviction.

As the hearing closed, the House renewed its invitation to the public and relevant bodies to submit further input before the bill moves to the next legislative stage. The Assembly’s renewed commitment to transparency signals a meaningful step toward modernizing housing laws in Lagos.
