Bandits have attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing the Vice Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and abducting an undisclosed number of students.
The assault occurred around 5 a.m. on Monday when the armed men stormed the school premises, reportedly meeting no resistance. The community of Maga, which has suffered a series of violent attacks in recent months, was thrown into fresh panic and grief following the incident.
A resident, Aliyu Yakubu, described the dawn raid as devastating, saying the attackers overwhelmed the area with ease.
“The incident has thrown the entire community into panic. Residents of Maga are gripped with fear and sorrow,” he said.
Yakubu added that Vice Principal Makuku was shot dead while attempting to protect students during the invasion.
“He was hit while trying to stop the bandits from taking the students. His death is a huge tragedy for both the school and the community,” he lamented.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kebbi State Police Command had not issued an official statement. Efforts to reach the command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, were unsuccessful as repeated calls went unanswered.
