BREAKING NEWS: FG Debunks Claims — “JAMB Still Sole Authority for Admissions,” Says Education Minister

The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed reports circulating on social and online media alleging that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

In a statement issued on October 16, 2025, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, described the publication as false, baseless, and entirely misleading. He emphasized that at no time did the Ministry issue or authorize any statement suggesting that JAMB’s role in the admission process had been removed.

“For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria,” the statement read.

The Ministry reaffirmed that the established admission process through JAMB remains fully operational, urging students, parents, and institutions to rely solely on official communication channels of both the Ministry and JAMB for verified information.

Dr. Alausa reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining transparency, fairness, and credibility in tertiary education admissions, stressing that the Ministry continues to work closely with JAMB and other relevant agencies to protect the integrity of the process.

He also cautioned media houses, bloggers, and online platforms to verify information from official sources before publication to avoid spreading misinformation capable of causing confusion in the education sector.

The Federal Ministry of Education concluded by assuring the public that no changes have been made to JAMB’s role, which remains “central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework.”

For authentic updates, the Ministry advised Nigerians to follow the official websites and social media channels of both the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB.
