CAC Withdraws Registration Certificate of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN)

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has announced the withdrawal of the registration certificate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).In a statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry disclosed that it received an official communication from the CAC dated October 6, 2025, notifying it of the withdrawal of the certificate earlier issued to the NYCN on October 28, 2020.

According to the CAC, the decision followed a detailed investigation into the Council’s prolonged leadership crisis, which has lasted for over 18 years. The Commission stated that the move was made pursuant to Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020.

The investigation reportedly uncovered serial violations of both the NYCN Constitution and the provisions of CAMA, particularly Sections 833 and 834. As a result, the CAC has de-recognized all existing claims to leadership, trusteeship, and management within the organization.

To ensure continuity and reform, the Commission has set up an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee and manage the affairs of the Council for one year, effective October 6, 2025.

Reacting to the development, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development affirmed its recognition of the CAC’s legal authority under CAMA 2020 and pledged full support for the restructuring process.

The Ministry urged all youth stakeholders, member organizations, and affiliates of the NYCN to cooperate with the Interim Management Committee, noting that the move is aimed at restoring unity, legitimacy, and institutional integrity to the Council.

It further reiterated its commitment to promoting a stable, credible, and inclusive youth governance framework anchored on accountability, transparency, and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
