LAGOS… IT’S RACE DAY! 🇳🇬

Nine teams. Eighteen pilots. One spectacular location.

The future of racing has arrived on African shores — and it’s happening in Lagos.

This weekend, the city hosts the E1 Lagos Grand Prix, the first-ever electric powerboat championship on the African continent — a defining moment for sport, sustainability, and Nigeria’s global reputation.

Lagos isn’t just a city; it’s the heartbeat of Africa. And this weekend, that rhythm meets the roar of innovation.

MAKING HISTORY ON WATER

In a landmark moment, Lagos joins the elite global circuit of Monaco, Venice, London, and Miami as an E1 host city. The event features all-electric, zero-emission RaceBirds, sleek hydrofoil boats capable of cutting across water at up to 100 km/h.

“This event is far more than a spectacle — it’s Lagos proving what’s possible,”

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State.

Sanwo-Olu, whose administration facilitated the global partnership, emphasized that hosting the E1 race reflects “the future Lagos is building — one of clean energy, innovation, and opportunities for our young people.”

He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his goodwill message and commitment to Nigeria’s blue economy and sustainable development agenda.

ECONOMIC IMPACT AND GLOBAL SPOTLIGHT

The E1 Lagos GP is not just about competition — it’s about commerce, branding, and positioning Lagos as a world-class waterfront city.

Organisers estimate the event could generate over $100 million in revenue from tourism, sponsorships, and associated logistics.

FirstBank of Nigeria, one of the event’s lead sponsors, said its involvement highlights a belief in innovation-led growth.

“We see the E1 Lagos GP as the perfect platform to show that Africa can lead in sustainability and technology,”

FirstBank spokesperson.

Other major brands like Guinness and Singleton have also joined as sponsors, while the Lagos State Government has assured full readiness on safety, logistics, and coordination.

SUSTAINABILITY MEETS SHOWMANSHIP

Each RaceBird uses cutting-edge electric propulsion technology, producing zero emissions. For the Lagos State Government, it aligns perfectly with the city’s environmental and economic ambitions.

“We are sending a message that Lagos is ready for sustainable solutions — in energy, transport, and entertainment,”

Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources.

As the RaceBirds glide across the Lagos Lagoon, they mirror the city’s spirit — fast, ambitious, and unafraid to lead.

BEYOND SPORT: THE CULTURAL HEARTBEAT OF AFRICA

Lagos’ leadership doesn’t stop at sport. The city remains the cultural and musical powerhouse of Africa.

From Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Tems to Davido, Lagos continues to shape the global soundscape with Afrobeats, a genre that has taken the world by storm.

To sustain this creative boom, the Lagos State Government has launched a ₦1 billion Creative Industry Fund, aimed at empowering local artists and filmmakers.

“Lagos is Africa’s creative nerve centre,”

Governor Sanwo-Olu said.

“We are investing in talent because culture drives the economy.”

The rise of creative spaces like Nahous in Ikoyi and festivals like Afropolis have turned Lagos into a hub for artists, designers, and innovators from across the continent.

Meanwhile, the New Afrika Shrine — home of Felabration — remains a pilgrimage site for music lovers worldwide.

INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE FUTURE

Lagos’ progress is also visible in its physical transformation.

Projects such as the Fourth Mainland Bridge, Lekki Deep Sea Port, and the planned Lagos Arena reinforce its ambition to be a modern global city.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, a 700-kilometre corridor that begins in Lagos, promises to revolutionize interstate travel and trade.

These projects reflect the Lagos philosophy — think big, build fast, and lead boldly.

SETTING THE PACE FOR WEST AFRICA

By hosting the E1 Lagos GP, Lagos has once again proven its position as West Africa’s innovation hub.

The city is redefining what African leadership looks like — driven by clean technology, creative energy, and youthful ambition.

“This isn’t just a race,”

Governor Sanwo-Olu declared.

“It’s a statement that Africa’s future is bright — and Lagos is lighting the way.”

The event’s success also sends a strong message to other Nigerian states: the global stage is within reach when vision meets execution.

LAGOS: THE BLUEPRINT FOR TOMORROW

Lagos thrives at the intersection of ambition and achievement.

It’s a city of firsts — the first to host Africa’s E1 race, the first to dominate global music charts, and the first to continuously reinvent itself.

From RaceBirds gliding across the lagoon to Afrobeats filling the skyline, Lagos shows the world what’s possible when vision meets velocity.

In every sense, Lagos remains the pacesetter — for Nigeria, for West Africa, and for the future.
