FCT Police Warn Residents: Giving Money to Officers on Duty Is a Crime

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued a stern warning to residents, urging them to refrain from giving money or any form of inducement to police officers while on duty, describing such actions as illegal and detrimental to law enforcement integrity.

In a statement posted on the command’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @FCT_PoliceNG, the police emphasized that offering officers money during operations not only violates the law but also compromises the professionalism expected of the force.

“It is unlawful to give our officers money or any form of inducement while they are performing their duty. Let them discharge their responsibilities diligently, without interference,” the statement read.

The command also called on the public to support its commitment to ethical policing by reporting any unprofessional conduct by officers. Residents are encouraged to contact the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at 08107314192 or the FCT Police emergency line at 08032003913.

Reaffirming its dedication to transparency and accountability, the police stated:

“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to serving you with integrity. Your cooperation is vital — together, we can build a safer society.”

The warning comes amid ongoing efforts by the FCT Police Command to tackle bribery, corruption, and misconduct within the ranks, while fostering public trust and promoting responsible citizen engagement.
