Hon. Ege Olusegun Adebisi Joins Badagry in Commemoration of Slave Trade Abolition

Hon. Ege Olusegun Adebisi , Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ojo Constituency 01, joined the people of Badagry in a solemn and symbolic celebration marking the historic abolition of the transatlantic slave trade.

The commemorative event, held in the ancient coastal town of Badagry. A major slave route during the transatlantic slave era that brought together dignitaries, historians, cultural enthusiasts, and residents to reflect on the painful past while honoring the resilience and strength of the African spirit.

Speaking to the press, Hon. Ege emphasized the importance of remembering history and using the lessons of the past to shape a more just and equitable society.

“This is not just a remembrance of the abolition of slave trade, but a call to continue fighting for human dignity, justice, and freedom,” Hon. Ege stated. “As leaders, we have a duty to ensure that the sacrifices of our ancestors are not in vain and that our young people grow up understanding their history and heritage.”

The lawmaker praised the efforts of the Badagry community in preserving Nigeria’s historical narratives and promoting cultural tourism. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that educate the public and empower communities across Lagos State, particularly in the area of historical preservation and youth development.

Highlights of the event included a procession along the historic slave route, traditional performances, and visits to heritage sites.
