The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has scheduled Saturday, June 28, 2025, for the conduct of its mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a statement released on Sunday by the Board’s Public Communications Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the mop-up exam is being organized for 5,096 candidates who were unable to complete biometric verification during the main UTME exercise.
Dr. Benjamin emphasized that this mop-up exercise is strictly for the 2025 UTME cycle. He further explained that, in addition to the 5,096 affected candidates, another 91,742 who missed either the main UTME or the rescheduled exam will also participate in the mop-up.
In total, 96,838 candidates have been slated to take part in the exercise, which will hold across 183 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide. A few other candidates remain on standby pending the outcome of ongoing investigations and confirmation of their eligibility.
“This examination will accommodate the 5,096 spill-over candidates and those who failed biometric verification during the main exercise. Also, due to the special dispensation granted to absentee candidates of the main and resit examinations, 91,742 candidates who were absent in both or either of the main and resit examinations would also be given this opportunity which is only for 2025 UTME,” he stated.
Meanwhile, JAMB reiterated its ongoing crackdown on examination malpractice and technical failures at CBT centres. Following several infractions recorded during the mock, main, and rescheduled exams, the Board has placed 113 CBT centres under sanction—either suspended or completely delisted from further JAMB activities.
Dr. Benjamin disclosed that the affected centres were found guilty of various forms of malpractice, ranging from technical sabotage to actively aiding impersonation and other unethical practices.
As a result of the widespread misconduct, certain examination towns have also been removed from the list of locations for the mop-up exam. Candidates who were originally assigned to these towns will be relocated to nearby accredited centres.
