The Lagos State Government has commenced the payment of compensation to residents of Oworonshoki whose properties were recently demolished as part of ongoing urban redevelopment projects in the area.
According to government sources, affected landlords have begun receiving payments ranging between ₦2 million and ₦5 million, depending on the size, type, and valuation of their demolished properties.
Officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development confirmed that the disbursement is being made strictly to individuals whose buildings were duly verified and enumerated before the demolition exercise.
The compensation initiative is part of the government’s broader commitment to mitigating the impact of urban renewal projects on residents, ensuring that those affected by infrastructure expansion and regeneration plans receive adequate financial relief.
Authorities noted that the payments aim to support resettlement and livelihood restoration for displaced families, while also encouraging public cooperation with the state’s urban renewal agenda.
The Oworonshoki redevelopment project, which includes road expansion, waterfront enhancement, and community infrastructure upgrades, is expected to transform the area into a modern residential and commercial hub in line with the Lagos State Government’s long-term urban regeneration strategy.
