Lagos State House of Assembly To Hold Public Hearing on Tenancy and Recovery of Premises Bill, 2025

The Lagos State House of Assembly, through its Committee on Housing led by Hon Ege Olusegun Adebisi representing Ojo Constituency 01, is set to hold a one-day public hearing on the Lagos State Tenancy and Recovery of Premises Bill, 2025. The event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 13th August 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lateef Jakande Auditorium, Assembly Complex, Alausa, Ikeja.

The bill seeks to regulate the relationship between landlords and tenants, streamline the procedure for recovery of premises, and address other connected matters within Lagos State. According to the committee, the proposed law aims to strike a balance between protecting tenants’ rights and ensuring landlords can recover their property through lawful means.

The programme will open with the national anthem and an opening prayer, followed by welcome and keynote addresses. Hon. Ege Olusegun Adebisi, Chairman of the Committee on Housing, will give the welcome address, while Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, will deliver the keynote address.

A general overview of the bill will be presented by Hon. Noheem Babatunde Adams, Majority Leader of the House, after which stakeholders will have the opportunity to present memoranda and offer responses or comments.

The event will conclude with a vote of thanks from Barr. O. B. Onafeko, Clerk of the House, followed by a closing prayer and the pledge.

Members of the public, housing stakeholders, legal professionals, and tenant associations are encouraged to participate in the hearing and contribute to shaping a more equitable tenancy law in Lagos.
