Lagos State Launches First-Ever Waterfront Summit to Safeguard Lagos Lagoon

The Lagos State Government has officially launched its inaugural Waterfront Summit, a landmark initiative aimed at protecting and preserving the Lagos Lagoon and other vital water bodies in the state.

The summit, which brought together policymakers, environmental experts, community leaders, and private-sector stakeholders, focused on charting a sustainable roadmap for the conservation, development, and responsible use of Lagos’ waterfront assets.

According to officials, the event reflects the government’s commitment to balancing urban growth with environmental protection, while unlocking the lagoon’s full potential for tourism, transport, and recreation.

The summit featured discussions on marine ecosystem preservation, water transportation safety, waste management, and climate resilience, highlighting the urgent need to address threats such as pollution, encroachment, and unregulated activities along the lagoon.

State representatives emphasized that the Lagos Lagoon is not only central to the city’s identity and economy but also a heritage resource that must be preserved for future generations.
