LASU Senate Suspends Exams and Campus Activities Indefinitely Over Ongoing Staff Strike

The Lagos State University (LASU) Senate has officially suspended all socio-academic activities, including the upcoming second semester examinations for the 2024/2025 academic session, following an ongoing industrial action by the university’s staff unions.

In a virtual meeting held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, the Senate reviewed the implications of the strike declared by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Staff Unions. The unions involved include the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), all of LASU chapters.

The Senate noted that the unions’ demands are primarily directed at the Lagos State Government. It also acknowledged that the university management has been actively engaging relevant stakeholders to mediate and resolve the situation.

A high-level meeting, convened by the Lagos State Government and chaired by the Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, was held on Friday, August 1, 2025, with representatives from the university, the unions, and relevant ministries. All parties are expected to reconvene for further consultations on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

As a result of the unresolved industrial action, the LASU Senate has directed that the second semester examinations—originally scheduled to commence on Monday, August 4, 2025—be suspended indefinitely. All other academic and non-academic activities have also been placed on hold until further notice.

In a related development, the Senate has ordered all students residing in university hostels across the Ojo, LASUCOM, Epe, and Badagry campuses to vacate the premises no later than 6:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025.

Students and members of the university community have been urged to remain calm and law-abiding as dialogue between the university, unions, and government continues.

We are LASU, We are Great!
