The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, has extolled the outgoing Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adenike Omotunde Boyo, describing her as one of God’s greatest gifts to her administration.
In a heartfelt tribute marking the end of Prof. Boyo’s tenure, the Vice-Chancellor recounted their long professional journey and celebrated her immense contributions to the growth and stability of the institution.
According to Prof. Olatunji-Bello, Prof. Boyo was more than a deputy; she was a dependable ally, confidant, and friend who demonstrated exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to the university’s success.
“You have been far more than my Deputy; you have been my right hand, my co-labourer, my confidant, and my friend,” the Vice-Chancellor said. “There were many days when I had to be away for official duties, and I could rest easy because I knew LASU was in safe hands with you in charge.”
She described the outgoing Deputy Vice-Chancellor as a leader of rare intellect and compassion, noting that her calm assurance and sound judgment were instrumental to the administration’s achievements.
“Many people describe you as my right-hand woman, and I smile because it is true,” she added. “You have been part of every major decision, every strategic move, and every turning point of this administration. You think ahead, you understand the pulse of the institution, and you always balance firmness with kindness.”
Reflecting on their shared journey, Prof. Olatunji-Bello recalled first noticing Prof. Boyo’s brilliance and dedication when she served as Assistant Director of the LASU Foundation (JUPEB) Programme. Their professional bond deepened during their time together at the Lagos State University Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA), where Prof. Boyo served as her deputy.
The Vice-Chancellor also recounted Prof. Boyo’s steadfast support during her campaign for the Vice-Chancellorship, commending her loyalty, courage, and faith.
“When I was to contest the Vice-Chancellorship, you didn’t just support me from the sidelines; you were at the forefront. You led, organised, strategised, and encouraged me with unshakable faith that God’s plan would prevail,” she said.
Since assuming office as the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor of LASU in September 2021, Prof. Olatunji-Bello noted that Prof. Boyo had remained a strong pillar of the administration—providing stability, wisdom, and compassion in leadership.
“You have been the steady hand that keeps things running smoothly, the thoughtful voice in our deliberations, and the compassionate heart that connects with staff and students alike,” she said. “You embody the best of servant leadership – firm, fair, and deeply humane.”
Prof. Olatunji-Bello concluded her tribute with words of appreciation and prayers, wishing Prof. Boyo continued success and divine favour in her future endeavours.
“You have given so much to this administration and to LASU. You have been a stabilising force, a visionary leader, and a woman of substance,” she said. “As you move forward, may God reward your faithfulness, enlarge your influence, and make you a light wherever you go.”
The Vice-Chancellor described Prof. Boyo as a true sister and God’s special gift to her and to Lagos State University.
