The House of Representatives has raised alarm over an alleged threat by suspected terrorists to bomb the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
The issue was brought to the attention of the House during Tuesday’s plenary session, with lawmakers expressing deep concern over the security alert reportedly received by relevant security agencies.
According to reports, intelligence sources had warned of possible plans by terrorist elements to target key government institutions, including the National Assembly, prompting heightened security measures around the complex.
Lawmakers called on the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies to intensify surveillance and ensure the safety of legislators, staff, and visitors within the premises.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, reportedly directed the House Committee on National Security and Intelligence to liaise with relevant authorities for a comprehensive briefing and to strengthen preventive actions.
The development has sparked anxiety among workers and visitors to the National Assembly, as security operatives have increased patrols and screening procedures at all entry points to the complex.
Authorities, however, have assured the public that proactive steps are being taken to avert any potential attack and maintain peace within the Federal Capital Territory.
