Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has commended Ecobank for creating a unique platform that unites architects, engineers, designers, builders, financiers, innovators, and young professionals to shape the future of the built environment.
The Governor gave the commendation on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of the Ecobank Design and Build Exhibition, held at the Ecobank Pan African Centre (EPAC), Victoria Island, Lagos. He was represented by the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board, Mrs. Bukola Agbaminoja.
Speaking on the theme, “How We Build, How We Live,” Sanwo-Olu said the forum highlights innovative, environmentally friendly, and resilient solutions that go beyond aesthetics.
“Lagos is a city that is constantly evolving. From housing developments to bustling markets, from bridges to creative workspaces, everything we see started as a vision. But vision alone is not enough—we need skilled professionals, supportive policies, responsible institutions, and sustainable financing. This exhibition brings all these essential elements together,” he noted.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a modern, liveable, and inclusive Lagos, stressing that good design and solid construction are necessities for a sustainable city.
He praised Ecobank for recognising young professionals, artisans, and small businesses, describing them as the true builders who transform ideas into reality.
Sanwo-Olu further urged financial institutions to view housing, infrastructure, and design not as abstract concepts but as viable, sustainable investments with long-term benefits for citizens.
He also charged professionals in the sector to push the boundaries of innovation, embrace inclusivity, adopt eco-friendly practices, and deliver structures that will stand the test of time.
While congratulating Ecobank, the organisers, and exhibitors, Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism that the exhibition would spark new partnerships, inspire bold ideas, and lead to tangible projects that reflect the aspirations of Lagos, Nigeria, and Africa at large.
