Sanwo-Olu, Fashola, Ambode Lead Lagos APC to Endorse Tinubu for Second Term

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement came during a high-profile stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, attended by top political figures, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former governors Babatunde Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC).

The motion for Tinubu’s endorsement was moved by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, and seconded by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa. Both leaders described President Tinubu’s performance over the last two years as transformative, saying the nation deserves the continuity of his progressive leadership.

Governor Sanwo-Olu echoed their position, stating that the President had fulfilled many of his campaign promises and deserves the full backing of Lagos—the political base where his leadership journey began.

“By unanimous decision taken by all stakeholders here today, Lagos endorses President Tinubu to run for a second term,” the governor declared.

Former Governor Babatunde Fashola used the occasion to highlight voter apathy in Lagos, noting that the 30 percent voter turnout in the 2023 elections was concerning. He urged the party to re-engage citizens and strengthen its grassroots mobilisation.

APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, who represented the National Chairman, emphasised the importance of voter registration and turnout ahead of 2027, while Senator Tokunbo Abiru reaffirmed the loyalty of Lagos APC to President Tinubu’s vision of national renewal.

The meeting also featured contributions from traditional rulers, party chieftains, youth leaders, and federal appointees from Lagos, including Ministers Wale Edun, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and Tunji Alausa, who presented the administration’s scorecard in key sectors.

Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi announced incentives to boost voter registration, pledging financial rewards for the most active local government areas, wards, and polling units.

The gathering ended with renewed commitments from all stakeholders to mobilise Lagosians in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid and sustain the state’s legacy as the cradle of progressive politics in Nigeria.
