A young lady in Borno State has reportedly taken her own life after being forced into marriage by her father against her will.
Sources close to the family said the tragic incident occurred shortly after the lady was coerced into marrying a man she did not love. According to reports, she had repeatedly expressed her opposition to the arrangement but was compelled to proceed with the union.
Community members described the deceased as intelligent and vibrant, lamenting that her life was cut short due to parental pressure and cultural expectations.
Rights activists have since called for deeper advocacy against forced marriages, urging traditional and religious leaders to prioritize consent and mental health in marital decisions.
