WAEC Withdraws 2025 WASSCE Results, Orders Candidates to Recheck

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially withdrawn the 2025 WASSCE results for school candidates after discovering technical glitches in the grading process. This decision stems from the recent introduction of “paper serialisation”—an anti-malpractice innovation implemented in subjects like Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics—which inadvertently caused data inaccuracies during a post-release internal audit.

In response, WAEC has temporarily suspended access to its result-checker portal. The council has apologized to affected candidates and the public, emphasizing that the review and correction process will be completed within 24 hours. Candidates who had already checked their results are advised to revisit the portal after this period to confirm their updated scores.

This action follows the initial release of results on August 4, 2025, which revealed that only 38.32% of the approximately 1.97 million candidates achieved credit passes in at least five core subjects—a dramatic decline from 72.12% the previous year.

WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, professionalism, and transparency in its conduct of examinations, encouraging trust and patience from all stakeholders during the ongoing rectification process.
